Mastiff by DaddyHoggy Mastiff by DaddyHoggy
A British Army Mastiff Armoured Personal Carrier, currently being used in Afghanistan.

This one is at work as part of an experiment, it's connected to another 'Virtual' Mastiff inside the Defence Capability Centre (the silver building you can see in the background of the image).

It's not just bullet proof, it's (designed to be) bomb proof and RGP resistant!
At around 30 tons, these things are a handful to drive. They do offer a sense of safety on the battlefield, though.

Although the truck might not survive being blown up, it was intended that the occupants would survive the experience.
I've seen a few of these in the aftermath of being attacked. Roadside bombs generally won't completely destroy them, VBIEDs (car bombs, truck bombs) can be quite large. A full size dump truck heavily loaded with enough HE can take out just about anything if it gets in close enough.

Yup, bar and mesh armour is an effective, (relatively) cheap and light protection against RPGs.

All things being relative, yes. Slat armor is awesome stuff.

I always wondered why we didn't see more of this stuff. It worked well in Field Trials. www.amsafe.com/products-servic…
